Upcoming CLONE WARS May Hit Theaters

By: Jarrod Sarafin, News Editor

The show may premiere in some theaters next summer or it may not. It seems that Hasbro and Lucasfilm are not in agreement over this bit of news. The Force.net reported that Hasbro announced at the Fall 2007 Analyst Event that the upcoming STAR WARS:CLONE WARS animated TV series will premiere in theaters on August 8, 2008. The show would then continue on TV throughout the fall.

Right after this news hit the wires, Lucasfilm was quick to clarify the announcement from Hasbro, telling the site that no decision has been made.

"I'd like to clarify Hasbro comments this AM about the Clone Wars TV series," Lucasfilm said. "We see it as a breakthrough animated television series and are exploring a number of innovative ways to introduce it to the public. No decisions regarding release strategy have been made yet."

Someones PR department needs to get on the same page as the distributor's PR department and figure out WTF is going on with this project.

Hasn't this been in development almost as long as each of the films?

hmm, no. I mean they already had a Clone Wars just before the last movie. It was pretty good. This new animation looks kind of cool. Aren`t they using the same type for that really really bad looking new Spiderman cartoon?

Come on, this looks terrible!!!

Didn't the last Clone Wars use like that Clerks cartoon style of animation? I guess this will be coolas long as Lucas didnt write it. From the picture, it looks like the animation is a little boxy or something. Well, I will still watch it because it is Star Wars.

I still want Lucas to go back and tweak 1 through 3 so there is no half ass acting, script, and direction… basically, just let someone redo them, it seems to be Hollywood's only thing now.

It looks awsome as far as 3-D cartoon's go. I can't wait to see this regardless if it's on TV or in theatre.

It's funny because I do believe these episodes are usually better then the film because the writting and directing is different then the movies.

GL is good but, even I have to admit Ep. 1-3 wasn't that excellent and those cartoons between ep. 2-3 were really fun to watch.

I'll still watch it anyway...

Totally agree jedibanner. The cartoon was better than the last 3 movies and that preview is bad ass. I had the same feeling watching those Clone War cartoons as I still get watching the original movies. The acting is better, the story is better....obviously Lucas has very little to do with these.

>just let someone redo them, it seems to be Hollywood's only thing now.

Nice one myklspader. It's funny cuz it's so very sad.

Not to get us TOO sidetracked, but...

It seems to me that fans have a tendency to either LOVE or HATE. I tend, most often, to find myself somewhere in the middle.

Are there things that I could critique in the STAR WARS movies? Yup. Plenty of them. Are there things I would change if I was "in charge"? Again - yup. No question. Am I someone who then agrees that Lucas isto criticism (some seem to think this is blashphemy!)? Certainly...

That being said...

I thnk some folks just totally go much too far down that path - IMHO. I enjoyed all six of the movies. In varying degrees, in different ways, for sure. But the idea that even the most criticized of the bunch, PHANTOM MENACE, is pure dreck is - IMHO - just silly. And the idea that Lucas is some kind of hack - well, I think that is just silly too.

Believe it or not, not looking to pick a fight here, or to stir the pot. We all like what we like. I just find the "LOVE IT / HATE IT" mindset a bit offputting. For me, the Star Wars movies at their WORST are still entertaining, fun, and enjoyable. But hey, to each his/her own...

I hear ya shadowprime. I guess you could say I LOVE the series as a whole but definitely feel things in certain films could have been much better. I certainly enjoy all six individually to varying degrees.

I certainly don't think Lucas is a hack. As time went on I feel his ability to self edit lost a lot of ground and he was ultimately unable to look at things he did critically enough. The last 3 (or 1st? 1-3 at any rate) really could have used someone else helping with the writing. Less or no Jar-Jar would have been welcomed and the Anikan/Padme relationship needed someone else’s finer touch. (And those damn Ewoks in Jedi shoulda been Wookies!!!!) but overall I think we got a decent and entertaining ride.

And back to topic: This series looks kick ass! Looking forward to this and some more concrete word on the live action series.
