ANGELS & DEMONS Pushed Back to 2009

Sony has pushed their Da Vinci Code prequel ANGELS & DEMONS back to May 15, 2009, reports Variety. The trade says that screenwriter Akiva Goldsman came into some problems with the script by having to rush before the WGA November 1st deadline. Also adding to the troubles is the fact that nobody has been cast except Tom Hanks. Rather than rush the project further, Sony is deciding to wait for the strike to resolve, polish the script and fill the cast before entering production. Originally, it was set for a Dec 2008 release. Ron Howard plans to direct the project.

"While the filmmakers and the studio feel the screenplay is very strong, we do not believe it is the fully realized production draft required of this ambitious project," a Sony spokesperson said. "At this time, there is no new start date for 'Angels & Demons,' but we are setting a release date of May 15, 2009, and are hopeful to deliver the movie worldwide to theaters on that date. We do not expect any other film on our 2008 slate to be affected."

ANGELS & DEMONS hits theaters May 15, 2009.

This was a much better read than The Da Vinci Code. This had a sense of urgency that TDC did not. I did love the way TDC pissed off a few religious zealots. I mean if a book makes you question your faith, you don't have strong convictions to begin with and I think thats why people get angry. They might actually have to think. Oh no, I might be wrong in the fact that there are 50 other Religions out there with the same core principals, yet I am told, MINE is the ONLY one that's right....What to do, what to do.......sorry, that was my little tirade. I think the movie will be good, I mean TDC was good for a feeling of no urgency.

Angels & Demons definitely was far superior to Da Vinci Code for the reason that you mentioned Whiskeymovie. I always thought the "threat" in Da Vinci was never that significant, but the storyline in Angels & Demons was much stronger. I still thought many of Brown's failings as a writer can be found in both books, but a film version could fix most of his shortcomings.

Having said that, I'm not all that excited about the movie. There will only be one movie in May 2009 worth seeing, and that is AVATAR.

Didn't read the books and hated The DaVinci Code. So, unless they have real demons in this one like LOTR's Fellowship I'll wait.

I liked the DaVinci Code, but I did not read the books. I was looking forward to this. It's a shame.

I like the fact that the religous people don't understand this movie is fiction, which makes me believe maybe the movie is correct. ;)

And a summer release is a much better idea for this movie anyways.

bdd,

I am a religious guy, and I understand both Angels & Demons and The Da Vinci Code were total fiction. If your comment was meant to be funny, then so be it, but if you truly believe that then you are putting your faith and trust in a completely non-credible source. I wasn't offended by anything in either of Brown's books featuring Langdon, but I think his theories (specifically the ones in Da Vinci Code) are utter horse mullarkey. And yes, there IS a difference between the two.

Anybody know when Dan Brown's third Robert Langdon book is coming out? I'm looking forward to seeing Angels and Demons on the big screen. It was a great read.

So the new title will be Humans vs. Christian terrorists so it is more updated to reflect current times. All religious books are fiction after all it is known as the grreatest story ever told and not the most credible story ever told. Its just sad that that Jesus person's mom lie has not been proven wrong yet just incredibly hard to believe. I mean why hasn't Jesus risen yet? In times of wars started by greedy, arrogant, unintelligent human demons who are to lazy to verify facts but rather chose to go by one Tenent of America's idea that "Iraq may have weapons of mass destruction". Then suddenly the Christian Terrorists "are confident that weapons of mass destruction exist" . And they really dont believe that and they just need to get more business machines set up to steal oil from incredibly poor people or they are lying and dont mean nuclear weapons but rather guns. You would think Jesus would get his lazy ass to the real world and set people straight. Too bad the christian bible has been edited and rewritten to give a tisk tisk to Jewish beliefs which is good cause it allowed christians to help Ann Coulter to sell books. Man just think if Mary hadnt lied about having an affair she couldve been a decent mother and not inspire humans to llie when they are embarrassed, of course she would hve been drawn and quartered but thats in the past. So sad that all those christians will be offended now maybe a few of them will consider the effects they have on people who are gay or support stem cell research or just chose not to be brainwashed by a pedophile in a cheap robe or a $2,000 dollar suit that is paid for by preying on parishoner's for well fare checks. Nah they will probably just pray and people will go on suffering.

And Whiskey, that is how one performs a "tirade".

Angels & Demons was the first Langdon adventure I read and it was much much better than The DaVinci Code so I look forward to the big screen version.

What I find fascinating, and I`m not trying to bash anyone`s religion here, is how closed minded alot of very religious people are. You would think it would be the opposite but it tends not to be. I knid of think that defeats the whole purpose of religion and I`m speaking about any religion, not just Christianity.
